Rapunzel is an architectural scale doll crocheted by hand from rope. She rests on the top of the tunnel wall at the Coal Loader site with her 8m long hair hanging down, hinting at the potential to access restricted and secret areas. of the site.

Rapunzel’s hair resembles marine rope, but instead of being tied to an anchor, it teases us with freedom , reinventing a 200 year old fairytale to create a contemporary folklore.  The body form reclaims the built environment, beckoning us to break rules and question protocols of ownership and authority.

The crochet fabrication acts as a counterpoint to the industrial, rugged and masculine nature of the site.

Rapunzel was a finalist in the North Sydney Art Prize 2015.
