ELECTRIC SHEEP

Electric Sheep is a stop frame animation made from individual filet crochet figures jumping over a fence in a never ending loop.

Inspired by the title of the Philip K Dick book ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep’ this work is a glimpse into what a crafted digital future could look like. The binary nature of filet crochet, with it’s open and closed squares, is used to create a simulation of pixelated  imagery and to generate a hybrid expression that is both textile and digital. Perhaps robots would yearn for domesticity and dream of traditional hand craft as they drift off to sleep?
